2011 Photo Contest

The Kanawha State Forest Foundation is pleased to announce the Second Annual Kanawha State Forest Photography Contest. The response to last year's contest was so wonderful that we are doing it again!

If you have an interest in nature photography, now is your opportunity to get out to Kanawha State Forest and try your skills at capturing the beauty and appeal of the area. Perhaps you already have a favorite photo that you would like to share with other friends of the Forest.

Contest Details

Photos may be entered in any one of three categories:

Animal photos
Wildlife (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, etc.)

Plant photos
Plants (including wildflowers, shrubs, trees, ferns, fungi, and lichens)

scenery photos
Scenery.

Two divisions of competition:

Prizes will be awarded for the best photo in each category for both divisions. Ribbons will be awarded to the second and third place entries in each category and division. There will be a $50 Grand Prize for the Best Overall Photo.

Winners will be announced on September 10, 2011, at the Margaret Dennison Wildflower Walks at the Swimming Pool Pavilion in the Kanawha State Forest. Winning entries will also be posted on the Foundation website.

How to Enter

Submit your pictures as 5" x 7" prints and include your name, telephone number, address, age and choice of subject category on the back of each photo. Deadline for entries is August 1, 2011. Mail your entries to:

Contest Rules

  1. Any photo taken within the boundaries of Kanawha State Forest is eligible. Contest participants are welcome to submit photos from any time of of year.
  2. Please limit your submissions to just two photos per category.
  3. Entrants should only submit their own photographs. Please do not submit photos that have been published elsewhere.
  4. Any amateur photographer may enter. (Kanawha State Forest Foundation Board Members are not eligible to enter contest.)
  5. All photographs become the property of the Kanawha State Forest Foundation. Any phootograph submitted may be uysed by the Foundation to promote the State Forest and the Foundation's activities.
  6. We will not be able to return any photos.
